Foreign Minister Holds Talks With Iraqi President

BAGHDAD The visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi held talks with Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in Baghdad Saturday.
In the meeting, the Iranian minister underlined the determination of Islamic Republic of Iran to remove the problems remaining from the 1980-88 war between the two countries.
Referring to the 1975 Algiers Accord signed by Iran and Iraq, Kharrazi said the implementation of the agreement, as the basis of bilateral relations, will guarantee the interests, security and stability of the two countries.
The Iraqi president, for his part, underscored his own role in the discussions which led to signing of the accord. "Tehran-Baghdad political will can help settle the problems and establish good neighborly ties," he said.
Saddam Hussein added that based on such political will, measures should be taken to resolve the problems remaining from the war quickly.
The Iranian foreign minister met with Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramazan Saturday morning.
He attended a lunch reception by Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Said as-Sahhaf and held official talks with his counterpart and other ranking Iraqi officials Saturday afternoon.
The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Baghdad on Friday. The Head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Rezaei also accompanied the minister.
During the visit to Iraq, Rezaei said, he was to hold talks with Iraqi officials on the problems of Iranian pilgrims willing to visit the Islamic holy sites in Iraq and the existing financial problems with Iraqi government vis-a-vis the issue.
He expressed hope after talks with Iraqi side the Iranian pilgrims' problems would be settled.
